Dota Underlords is currently in open testing and the full beta is expected in the coming days. This is Valve's official response to the Auto Chess mod craze that has swept Dota over the past few months and will be monitoring its progress. What is Dota Underlords?

Dota Underlords is Valve's official take on the unofficial Auto Chess mod, which has proven to be extremely popular over the past few months.

How to play Dota Underlords?


Dota Underlords plays almost identically to the unofficial Auto Chess mod you're probably already familiar with. (Although it will of course evolve in its own direction over time and under Valve's guidance. Eight players enter the playspace, and each player has a tiled "chessboard" on which they can place attacking units. When combat rounds begin, players travel between boards and their units automatically attack each other.Gold is earned based on combat stats and this currency can be used to purchase further units.Your goal is to create a strategically synergistic fighting force that continues to crush all opponents in a series of encounters.Because players beaten in separate rounds, they slowly drop out of the run.It's a case of being smarter and more prepared than the other seven players to be the last man.For a deeper understanding of how this kind of game works, we highly recommend checking out our Dota Underlords: How To Play article.

How to install Dota Underlords?

If you want to take part in the current Dota Underlords beta, you will first need to purchase the Dota 2 Battle Pass. After purchasing the Battle Pass, go to the Main Menu and claim to download Dota Underlords through the icon. This will add it to your Steam library, so it's just a case of installing it and you'll be good to go. However, if you can wait a few days from the time this article was published, then the open beta will be available to all players.

When will the first season of Dota Underlords start?

According to an in-game announcement, the developers expect beta testing approximately three months before the start of Season 1. Based on this description, we expect an official release of Dota Underlords at some point in Q4 2019. We'll update this section of our guide when we know more.
