This page of the Resident Evil Village guide explains how to heal wounds and restore health.
We'll also explain how to get information about Ethan's low health, how to permanently increase his health, and what can happen if he dies.
How to check Ethan's health?
In Resident Evil Village, the health bar is not permanently displayed on the screen. If you want to check Ethan's current state, you need to open the inventory. You will find a health bar in the upper left corner of your inventory, as shown in the image above. Its color reflects the state of your health - you should be alert and, if possible, react if it is orange or red.
Please note that opening the inventory will pause the game, although as soon as you start healing, the animation will begin. So it's a good idea to heal yourself while away from enemies.
Other signs of serious injury may include screen distortion and a red glow around the edges of the screen. The game may also display a message on the screen reminding you to self-heal.
Wound healing First aid
Bottles of First Aid are used to restore health. You don't have to open your inventory every time you want to activate a heal. You can press R1/RB on the controller to use the medicine right away.
Medicines can be obtained in three ways. The first way is to find ready-made first aid bottles as loot - carefully explore all locations.
The second way is to make the medicine yourself with the help of a craft. To craft 1 Bottle of First Aid Medication, you will need 1x Herb and 1x Chemical Fluid. Of course, you can find crafting ingredients by exploring the game world.
The third way is to buy medicines from the duke. This is the least economical method and should only be used if you have used up your first aid supply. By default, one bottle of medicine costs 1000 lei.
Constant health replenishment
During the second visit to the village (after returning from the castle), you will open a new opportunity to interact with the merchant Duke - "Duke's Kitchen". It allows you to cook food based on unique ingredients provided by Duke. Basically, these are the remains of dead domestic animals, fish and birds.
In the list of recipes, you should be especially interested in three dishes that can increase Ethan's energy supply for a long time. This:
- Fish with herbs - requires Fish x3, Bird x2 - eating this dish will slightly increase the health of the main character.
- Mititei with three flavors - requires Fish x4, Poultry x2, Meat x3 - eating this dish will increase Ethan's health.
- Tochitura de Puy - requires Poultry x4, Meat x3, Juicy game x1 - eating this dish will significantly increase the health of the main character.
Death and its consequences
When your character dies, two main options appear - you can restart the game from the last checkpoint (not necessarily from the typewriter save point) or exit to the main menu. The second option can be useful if you don't want the game to record Ethan's death in the stats for this playthrough.
On the death screen, you can also change the difficulty level, although it is worth remembering that lowering the difficulty level can potentially make you unable to get some trophies.
