In the single player game Red Solstice 2: Survivors, players have the opportunity to engage their AI-controlled companions into battle.

Unfortunately, the game doesn't explain very well the available controls and commands with which players can control their AI followers. This guide will fill in the gaps regarding squad teams in Red Solstice 2.

Quick commands

By default, the AI squad is configured to follow the player and cover him with fire when enemies are nearby. However, a situation may arise when it will not be profitable to run after the player as a single squad and you will have to split the squad. Although controls can be rebound, we'll use a standard control scheme for this tutorial.

There are four quick and easy commands that cover the most basic needs of the squad:

  • Attach / attach a squad to a group of players
  • The squad moves to the location of the cursor
  • The squad follows the player
  • The squad holds the position

Pressing the Control key and clicking the left mouse button on the desired fighter, you order him to either follow the player, or stay in place. For example, if a squad member is already following a player, clicking the control button will cause him to stay put and not give up.

The F1 key will order the unit to move to the location indicated by the cursor. However, be careful: the AI ordering the followers to move to the specified location automatically separates them from the player's group, and they will not follow the player after executing the self-move command.

The F2 key will re-attach all fighters to the player's group, regardless of their position on the map. Followers will work their way up to the leader as quickly as they can, and then take up an observer position as soon as they get close to the player.

The F3 key orders all squad members to hold the current position. This can be useful when the player needs to activate a switch or relay in a protected area where the squad can take care of the enemy while the player completes the task.

Specific commands

Each soldier in Red Solstice 2 has unique abilities and different equipment. At times, the tactical situation requires more sophistication in order to maximize the effectiveness of the player's forces.

The developers have included in the game a radial menu of commands (left Alt key), which slows down the time when activated and appears around the last cursor position. There are four orders in this command menu that you need to click to activate:

  • Use an additional weapon
  • Move and / or interact
  • Follow player
  • Activate Revive Spike

The Use Secondary Weapon command will cause the selected soldier to switch to his secondary weapon and attack the area around the last cursor position. This is an incredibly important team, especially for soldiers who specialize in their secondary weapons, such as the Markmen with their sniper rifles.

A move and / or interact command will cause the selected AI follower to move to the cursor location and pick up an item or interact with a switch. This command is similar to the fast movement command of a squad, except that it allows for more granular control over individual soldiers.

The "Follow Player" command will cause the selected soldier to follow the player and automatically cover him with fire.

The last command "Revive Thorn" will order the squad to install a device that will revive the player or all fallen comrades after a 1-minute charge. When using this command, there is no need to specify the soldier who will place the animating spike.

Red Solstice 2: Survivors can get quite challenging as ever-evolving swarms of STROL mutants attack and press on the player at every turn. Now that the squad's teams are laid out on the shelves, the player will have to learn them and optimize his squad's chances of success and victory over hordes of enemies.
