Google launched a map version of Snake back in 2019. While the app version is no longer running, the browser version is still alive and ready to play.

Android, iPhone and desktop users can easily spend hours playing the popular Snake game on Google Maps. There are actually two different ways to play Snake for free through Google, although the Maps interface adds a nice twist to the classic mobile game. Google offers many Easter eggs across its various products and services, and like Atari's Breakout game, Snake is another one that stays hidden unless you know where to look.

For those who just want to play Snake, just Google "play Snake" to launch the game in a web browser. Users can then simply click or tap the "Play" button and then "Play" again to launch the more modern version of the game. For those who want to level up the game a bit, there is Google Maps. Google launched a map version of Snake back in 2019 as part of their April Fool's Day celebration. At the time, the game could even be accessed directly from the Google Maps mobile app, although this only lasted for one week. However, the web browser version is still live and ready to play.

Game "Snake" on Google maps

Like many other Google Easter eggs, the browser version of Snake is still available to play online. To start the game, just go to snake.googlemaps.com and click the "Start" button. For reference, the Snake game on Google Maps supports multiple desktop browsers and is also available on Android, iPhone, and iPad devices. However, before picking apples, it is worth noting that there are some restrictions. The most notable of these is that this is not Google Maps in all its glory. For example, players cannot simply select a location and start playing. Instead, they will have to choose between a limited number of cities, such as Cairo, London, Sydney, and San Francisco, or choose the more general "World" option.

Another point to note is that this is not exactly Snake in her original form. In fact, there are no snakes here at all. Apart from London and its iconic big red bus, Google has decided to replace the snake with trains. Since there are no snakes in the game, there are no apples, and instead of them, players will have to pick up passengers. However, the gameplay works just like the original Snake game, and there's always the standard Google Search Easter egg for those who don't find the Maps version snaky enough.
