Over the years, Google Search had hidden an Atari Breakout game that could be played. Here's the right way to find and play this game in 2021.

Google Search has a hidden game Atari Breakout Easter egg that you can play if you know how. This is just one of many Google-related Easter eggs that have been released in the past and are still available today. While this game can be accessed in the same way as others, the process is slightly different due to the unique nature of the Easter egg.

Breakout is hardly the most visually or mentally stimulating game by modern standards. After all, this is just another version of Pong. However, when Breakout first appeared in 1976, it was a product of its time that instantly attracted demand and became a hit. For the record, without being responsible for the name or idea, Breakout was designed for Atari by Steve Wozniak, who was paid by Steve Jobs.

Although Breakout was released in 1976, a Google search version was added in 2013 to celebrate the 37th anniversary of the original. The Google version, directly inspired by the classic version of the game, brings a nice change to the familiar Google search. Players can use the arrow keys on the keyboard or the mouse to play. You have five lives to earn maximum points by breaking through as many blocks as possible.

Searching for an Atari Breakout game on Google Search

Most Google Search Easter eggs can be found simply by entering the correct search term. While this is technically true this time too, there is one more step to properly locate and play the exploratory version of Breakout. The search term you need to use is "Atari Breakout", although "Breakout" is fine too. Regardless of the term, in a regular search, Google Search will return the usual set of results, including links to official sites and resources. While you used to be able to access the game through the "Images" section of Google Search, this is no longer the case - at least without clicking on the link. The correct and up-to-date way to find an Easter egg in 2020 is to paste your search term into the Google search bar and click the "I'm Lucky" button.

Again, if you don't use the search option with luck, the Easter egg won't load as intended, and the same is true for Google Search Images, although you end up with tons of images of the game. In addition, since there is no "I'm Lucky" tab when accessing Google Search through the Chrome mobile app, these users can still play the game by performing a normal search and clicking on the first search result. However, this is not exactly the same as the Atari Breakout game, which automatically launches as soon as you do a Google search.
