There are several collaborative projects in Monster Hunter World with other properties, including one that resulted in the addition of Gae Bolg's insect glaive.
Monster Hunter World has partnered with several other brands and games to bring unique gear to the game. One of the biggest collaborations was Final Fantasy 14. This collaboration brought the Behemoth battle to the game, as well as the Drachen armor and Gae Bolg's insect glaive. Later, in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, Ge Bolg could be upgraded to compete with his counterparts in the Master rank.
Forging Ge Bolg
Gae Bolg requires the following materials to create:
- 3 monster bones
- 2 giant scissors
- 3 ether shards
- 3 Fire Stones
The first three materials are obtained in the battle with the Behemoth. Players will encounter the Behemoth for the first time in the Legendary Beast High Rank Special Mission. However, this is a scare quest, so the Behemoth cannot be fully hunted in this quest. Once the Behemoth is repulsed, the main fight, He takes it with his eye, is unlocked. Once this is done, it can be repeated as an optional quest called "The Guest from Eorzea".
Behemoth is not an easy fight, even if the players have completed Iceborne and have master rank gear. Players will most likely want to find a team to play with. In a nutshell, some tips for defeating the Behemoth include: using flash modules when you receive a Charybdis casting notification. If no one has flash pods, then the person being targeted will want to run to the edges of the battlefield so as not to clutter up the center of the tornado arena.
When he throws a comet, players will also want to spread them out so everyone has a better chance of being near it when the Behemoth starts casting Ecliptic Meteor. The Behemoth can also smash comets, so stay away from them during combat. If players have Iceborne, the Behemoth's front arms, tail, and head can be hit by the clutch claw. However, the Behemoth cannot be knocked down for a knockdown. Finally, the stalactites in the first battle zone can be knocked down to damage the Behemoth.
Monster bones have a 29% chance to be carved, a 28% chance to become shiny, and a 32% chance to be rewarded at the end of the hunt. The scissor behemoth has an 18% chance of being carved, a chance to get a reward if the Behemoth's front leg(s) is broken, and a 14% chance to get a reward at the end of the hunt. Aether Shards have a 22% chance to drop at the end of a hunt and a 22% chance to drop with a Plunderblade. Fire Cell Stones are not a Behemoth-specific material, but 2 of them have an 8% chance to drop after completing He Takes It With His Eye or A Visitor From Eorzea. Otherwise, players will most likely find them through ore nodes in the Elders' Hideout, despite having a 5% drop rate. Uragaan also has a 27% chance to drop one if his jaw is broken.
Forging True Gay Bolg
To upgrade a Gae Bolg to a True Gae Bolg, players will need:
- 2 monster bones
- 2 huge monster horns
- 1 monster tail
- 5 Ancient Dragon's Blood
Monster Bones have a 29% chance to be Carved, a 28% chance to drop Glitter Drops, a 28% chance to be taken with a Plunderblade, and a 32% chance to be rewarded at the end of the Hunt. Big Behemoth Horns have a 5% chance of being carved, a 100% chance of being awarded for broken Behemoth horn(s), and a 3% chance of being awarded at the end of a hunt. Behemoth tails have a 13% chance of being carved, a 100% chance of being carved from a Behemoth tail, and an 8% chance of being rewarded at the end of the quest. Ancient Dragon Blood is not a Behemoth material, but instead is a reward when hunting Ancient Dragons.
Forging the Nexus Gae Bolg
To upgrade True Gae Bolg to Nexus Gae Bolg, players will need:
- 1 symbol of unity
- 1 giant mane
- 1 Pure Dragon Blood
- 1 Large Ancient Dragon Stone
The true Gae Bolg can be obtained in the main game of Monster Hunter World, but players will need Iceborne to upgrade to the Nexus Gae Bolg. In terms of required materials, Behemoth Manes has a 35% chance of being carved, a 50% chance of being shiny, a 50% chance of being picked up with a Plunderblade, and a 21% chance of being rewarded at the end of a hunt. Elder Dragon Pure Blood is obtained as a reward for hunting master rank Elder Dragons, as are Greater Dragon Gems, though they also have a small chance of being carved or crafted with Plunderblade.
However, the Symbol of Unity is the subject of an event quest. In order to get the Unity Symbols, players will need to complete the Shocking Climax event quest. This quest requires players to hunt Zinogre and Namielle. It also shouldn't be that hard to beat given the quest's MR requirement of 24, which requires players to complete the main Iceborne campaign in order to achieve it.
Upon completion of the event quest, players are guaranteed to receive two Unity Symbols as a reward with a 20% chance to receive a second one and a 1% chance to receive two more. Once all the materials have been obtained, players will be able to forge the final form of Gae Bolg. Gae Bolg's Nexus has 744 attack, 10% affinity increase, 450 dragon element, elderberry letterpress, elemental boost, kinsect bonus, white sharpness, and a level 4 decoration slot.
Dragon Soul
After the Behemoth is defeated for the first time, players will be rewarded with the Dragon Soul Affinity. This follows the same upgrade path as Gae Bolg with True Dragon Soul and Nexus Dragon Soul.
To upgrade to True Dragon Soul, players will need:
- 5 ether shards
- 1 giant knife claw
- 2 dragonbone relics
- 2 Novacrystal
Drop rates for Aether Shards and Behemoth Shears have been discussed above. Dragon bone relics are most easily found in bone piles in high-ranked areas, or as a reward for certain quests, usually related to Lunastra or the base game's final boss. Behemoth quests can also drop them. Novacrystals can be rewards from high rank Kirin hunts or from high rank ore nodes.
To upgrade True Dragon Soul to Nexus Dragon Soul, players will need:
- 1 symbol of unity
- 1 Great Horn of the Beast
- 1 dragonbone artifact
- 1 Clear Crystal
The acquisition of Unity Symbol and Behemoth Great Horn was discussed above. Dragonbone Artifacts can be found in Master Grade Bone Pile, and Pure Crystals are sometimes rewarded from hunting Master Kirin, but can also be found in Master Grade Ore Nodes.
