Windtrace is a 3v1 pvp hide and seek game. Here's how to access Windtrace, along with tips on how to win and not miss out on any of the great rewards.
The Genshin Impact update version 1.5 is considered one of the game's best updates, with a housing system, a new domain, a new weekly boss, and new characters. Recently, icing on top of this already exciting update was the ongoing Windtrace event.
Windtrace is a 3v1 PvP style hide-and-seek game in which a hunter tries to hunt down three rebels before time runs out. Here's how to access Windtrace, along with tips on how to win and not miss out on any of the great rewards.
How to play Windtrace in Genshin Impact
When players first launch the game after May 14, they will have access to a quest that allows them to complete the Windtrace (provided that the player's rank is above 20). By talking to NPC Gygax in Mondstadt (he will be marked on the map), the event will be instantly unlocked. Talking to Gygax will allow players to start a match at any time, triggering an invitation to play together.
In each game in Windtrace, the Hunter will have 3 minutes to capture all three Rebels on one of the 5 available maps. Each player's normal attack, elemental skill, and elemental burst change during the game. Toward the middle of the match, Favor will descend into the arena. By gaining access to this service, players will be able to use a special ability that will benefit them (this ability will replace their Elemental Burst). By opening the Windtrace event overview and selecting Wind Art, players will be able to customize their abilities in a mini-game.
For hunters, one elementary skill is available - "Capture!". Clicking this skill next to a rebel will dispel their disguise and grab them. Hunters also have two options to replace their normal attack:
- sensory aura: Scans a fixed area around the player and notifies them if a rebel is hiding in that area.
- Mysterious guess: Briefly shows the direction in which all rebels can be found.
Hunters also have three options for replacing Elemental Burst:
- Final Curse: Randomly removes one Rebel's disguise and renders them unable to move for a certain amount of time.
- insight: Breaks the disguise of all rebels and illuminates each of them with a beacon of light, marking their location. The location of the rebels will be marked on the map, and they will not be able to disguise themselves.
- Hunter Intuition: Randomly dispels one rebel's disguise and marks their location on the mini-map for an extended period of time, preventing them from disguising themselves. If the rebel is nearby, he will be marked with a light beacon.
Rebels have replaced their elemental skill with Disguise, which allows the player to disguise themselves as one of two specialized objects (depending on the map). Rebels have the same elemental ability, Star Step, which greatly increases movement speed for 30 seconds. There are two options for their normal attack:
- put down the bait: Places a piece of bait in an area to confuse the hunter. If the hunter tries to grab the bait, his vision will be blurred for a short time.
- Transparency: Becomes invisible to the hunter for approximately 4 seconds.
Certain characters and cards can provide different benefits. By using Mona, players can use her special dash to hide in the ground and move faster during a chase. However, Mona cannot run over uneven terrain, making her more useful as a rebel rather than a hunter. On the Small Town Guerrilla Warfare map, hiding in the chimneys is a good strategy. In Winery Confrontation, the cliffs at the edge of the map provide good cover, while the treetops in Phantom Fire Stream provide cover in a quiet, barren area.
By playing mini-games and trying out different Wind Arts, players will be able to figure out which abilities and strategies suit them best. Windtrace will be available until May 24, 2021, so players have time to earn as many Windtrace Coins as possible and rack up those sweet event rewards!
