In this article, you will learn where to find the best loot, weapons and equipment in SCUM and what it is for, in order to get an answer to the question - read in the guide.
In our first guide to Scum, the early access survival game from Croteam, Gamepires and Devolver Digital, we covered some of the basics, like how to craft a simple (but useful!) wooden spear. But while spearing zombies in the face is very effective, you will need a real weapon if you want to survive. To do this, you need to know where to look on the Scum map, which covers an impressive 144 square kilometers.
Where to find the best loot, weapons and equipment in SCUM
Despite the size of the Scum map, each map grid has a shocking amount of good gear - weapons, ammo, and body armor - meaning that wherever you spawn, you'll always be in close proximity to a large stash of firearms. The game is in early access mode, so some points may change during the development process, but here is an overview of the best places to equip.
The map above, created by Suspectlive, is very useful if it's open on a second monitor while playing. Since the Scum map (opened by pressing the M button) shows your location with a small blue arrow, you can quickly determine where you are in relation to the places marked on the map.
Underground bunkers
Underground bunkers (marked with yellow dots on the map) are a great place to loot: the one I visited had several basement levels filled with weapons, ammo, body armor, tactical clothing and even MRE, which came in very handy after I ate zombie flesh and mushrooms on the way to the bunker.
But you can't just enter! Bunkers are usually guarded by two swords - large stomping robots that warn you as soon as they notice, and open fire after about two seconds. There are also a lot of zombie soldiers in the bunkers, some of them wearing military gear including helmets, and can be a bit more difficult to deal with than normal village zombies.
Stealth is your friend: crouch, stay in cover, and try to spot the entrance to the bunker from behind the fence (big hint: one mech usually stomps around it in a triangular patrol). After luring and killing a few nearby zeeds, I managed to sneak up close, open the hatch of the bunker, and slip inside (the mech shot me as soon as I entered, but I survived). Then I was like a kid in a candy store: a lot of loot in the armory, medical area, offices and crates scattered throughout the bunker.
Police stations and hunting camps
Police Stations (light blue on the map) are a reasonable place to find weapons, provided they haven't already been looted by other players. If you want to avoid extremely deadly mechs, head to the city where there is a police station: there is one in every district. But in any big city, you will encounter a bunch of zombies, both on the streets and in the surroundings. And if you're like me, all those buildings will drop your framerate a lot.
The hunting camps (marked in green) are a little more difficult to get to since there are only a few on the map, but the ones I visited had at least a few guns and some ammo for them. There is also a small handful of zombies roaming around.
Outposts
Currently, the outposts, which are marked in pink on the map above, do not have much to offer. The outposts that I visited were completely unguarded, but there is not much loot there, not counting all sorts of things and weapons. Currently, you cannot get inside the TEC-1 buildings, so search containers and small office spaces. Outposts are safe but not overly productive, and if you're in dire need of food or gear, I'd go to a city or a bunker.
Sights
Places like the airfield, factory, prison, and those marked with a star on the map above are large areas with loot, and sometimes mechs, zombies, and most likely other players. In other words, these are dangerous places for various reasons, so be careful. The trenches in C3 are mech-free, making them a decent place to equip, but you're sure to see fresh spawns rushing there in search of loot, as well as seasoned players looking for PvP.
Naturally, there are plenty of other places on the map where you can find equipment - on your in-game map, clusters of buildings are marked in orange, and there are even small pockets of one or two buildings that can be found by running around. We are sure that as the game develops and players look for more reliable places to loot, we will have something to add here.
And that's all there is to know about where to find the best loot, weapons, and gear in SCUM. If you have an alternative answer to the question of where to find the best loot, weapons and equipment in SCUM, then feel free to leave a comment below.
