Zangetsu is the favorite hero from the first bloody title Curse of the Moon. While he is hostile towards Miriam (the main character) this time around, players might be wondering exactly what they need to do, or if it's even possible to play as Zangetsu.

Here's what we know about playing as this beloved character hero in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

UPDATE: As of May 7, 2020, Zangetsu is now playable as a role playing character in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. To unlock it, you first need to beat the game and get a good ending. After that, from the main menu, you can start a new game by selecting Zangetsu as the character you are playing.

It is worth noting that there are several differences between the passage of Zangetsu and Miriam. For example, story cutscenes, as well as the crafting and Shard systems are disabled when playing as Zangetsu. He still has special abilities that consume MP, but he won't have any of the Shard abilities you're used to from your original playthrough.

Can you play as Zangetsu in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night?

Unfortunately, it's not possible to play as a Zengatsu at the moment, but that doesn't mean it will always be that way. It has been noted that the protagonist of the first game will be coming to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night as a playable character in a post-launch update.

The bad news is that there is no official word on when exactly this update will be released that players are reporting a number of bugs, including the Silver Bromide critical bug, and the developers will likely address these issues before releasing what - any additional content Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

The news was revealed in the 2nd Playable Character Reveal trailer, which we've included below. Here we can see Zangetsu in action, voiced by David Hayter, using his Zangetsuto katana as he fights his way through countless demons.

Unfortunately, the trailer ends with a rather vague announcement that the character will be coming to Bloodstained "for free at launch."

Once the update is released and Zangetsu becomes a playable character, we will update this guide with a new section on how to play the role of a demon hunter in your adventure through the Ritual of the Night.

For now, just sit back and keep your fingers crossed, the renewal will come sooner rather than later.
