King's Peak will unlock after you recover the Essence of the Four Gods, and it's a bit of an odd area. It can be freely explored, but only after you complete the first quest. This is because the first quest takes you to the top of the area, collecting fast travel points along the way. Due to the extreme cold, King's Peak can quickly deplete your stamina and make exploration impossible if you don't have the right starting point.
