This guide will tell Outriders step by step how to defeat Reiner in the Payback side quest to get the answer to the question - read on.

While not mandatory, Reiner could very well be the first boss enemy that players will fight in Outriders, which makes it especially challenging. Outriders is full of side quests that take players off the beaten track to explore other stories. Sometimes they pair well with the main game, and that certainly applies to the Payback side quest. At the beginning of the game, right after Outrider wakes up from a long sleep in cryo, a rebel named Reiner guides them through Hell. By forcing them through the anomaly, the Outrider develops a dislike for this rebel leader, and the "Payback" side quest allows them to see that dislike play out to the end. However, as the first boss that some players encounter, it can be especially challenging.

Like the player, Reiner is Shapeshifted, which means he has supernatural powers that make him a far more dangerous foe than standard enemies in Outriders. To come out on top here, it's important for players to understand what each of his anomalous skills does and how best to deal with them.

The most important thing to understand about this boss fight and future fights is that enemy skills can be interrupted. Check the skill descriptions for abilities unlocked up to this point to see if they have an interrupt tag. Using these skills on Reiner or any altered enemy while they are charging will interrupt the attack and stop the effect. In addition, Reiner spawns enemies throughout the fight, and they are the main source of healing for the player if something goes wrong.

In fact, Reiner only has two abilities, but both of them are very dangerous if not controlled. The first ability players will see Reiner using is called Rogue Flame. This technique takes a little time to charge, but spawns a firestorm that will track the player. It can be used multiple times, making the battlefield very hectic. Then, when Reiner gets low on health, he will use Healing Light, a skill that restores his health. If possible, this should be the main target for interruption, as allowing him to use it too much will drag out the fight for too long.

As a general strategy, players should undermine Reiner's health in the safest possible way. If he starts using his Healing Light ability, do your best to interrupt the skill. Wandering Flame can be annoying, but easy enough to dodge, and if the player is getting low on health, focus on the mobs it summons to heal. If the battle is still too difficult, there is always an option to lower the world level to make things a little easier, although players should be aware that this will reduce the quality of the rewards.

Outriders is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. And that's all there is to know about how to beat Reiner in the Payback side quest in Outriders.
