On April 28, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare console players will need to download a large data pack. The game requires a download, so you won't be able to join the servers until the download is complete.
The download is 15 GB, so be sure to give it enough time, depending on your internet connection. It's also a bit awkward because the patch will arrive on the same day and you'll need to download the patch before you can download the data pack.
The patch should download automatically when it's available for your console, so you don't have to worry about that. When the patch is completed, you can launch the game and select any mode to play. You will be taken to the installation menu and instructed to download the data package.
Select a data pack from the menu and the download will begin. When the download is complete, you will need to close the game and then restart it and you will be able to play as usual.
As for exactly what the patch and data pack covers, Infinity Ward has given us a little information on the various fixes coming to the game, but we'll have to wait for them to release the patch notes to get the full details.

- Fixed a bug due to which the corresponding camouflages for Renetti were unlocked when completing tasks for refinement for the SKS.
- Fixed a bug that caused the SKS camo unlock to not match other marksman rifle camo challenges.
- Fixed a bug that caused the "Hard Wired" skill for Alex to appear in thermals when Cold Blooded is equipped
- Fixed a bug where some watches showed the wrong direction when swiping
- Fixed a bug that could cause players to lose the ability to select their favorite faction in the Operator menu
- Fixed a bug due to which it was possible to see white lighting when moving or firing weapons in certain places
