Stardew Valley is an RPG style farming game. You have to choose your path... Will you dedicate your time to growing crops and caring for animals? Will you spend time in the local village, make friends with the locals? Will you enjoy the extermination of scary monsters in the mysterious mountain caves? Or will you try to achieve everything and get the coveted title of Stardew's hero? Here are some professions to choose.

What professions to choose in Stardew Valley?

There are five skills in Stardew Valley: Farming, Feeding, Mining, Fishing, and Combat Skills. The level of these skills is increased by completing various tasks up to a maximum of 10th level. At levels 5 and 10, you can choose a profession that provides a small bonus in each of the skills.

But once the choice is given, it can be difficult. Of course, every profession is useful, but some are perhaps better than others. Read on to find out which profession is best for the average player, as well as how to use the Statue of Limbo to change professions.

Farming Level 5

At the fifth level of farming, you will be offered two options: Rancher or Tiller.

In most cases, Farmer will be the best option. There are two reasons for this. First, animal products need to be processed into craft goods, not sold raw. Second, choosing the farming profession will unlock the crafting profession at level 10, which is far superior to the two options provided at level 10 if you choose the herdsman profession.

Farming Level 10

If you chose a farmer at 5th level, then at 10th level you will be presented with the choice between an artisan or a farmer.

If you have chosen a farmer, then, as recommended earlier, it is much better to choose an artisan. Given that crafting goods are some of the most profitable in the game, this is much better than the increase in crop growth rate that the Farmer gives.

If you still chose Rancher, then Shepherd is the best choice at level 10, as sheep produce wool faster. At this late game, you probably won't need the incubation speed bonus that Koopmaster gives you. Which type of animal you make friends with most quickly also depends on personal preference.

Mining Level 5

After smashing rocks in the mines long enough, you will reach level 5 in mining and will be given the choice between miner and geologist.

Choosing the best option depends on how far you have progressed in the game. In terms of profit, the best choice is Geologist. Gems sell for a lot of gold, and increasing the amount of ore you drop per unit doesn't really matter, especially in the late game. However, at the very beginning of the game, additional ore is of great benefit. So if you're still in your first spring or summer, Miner might be your best bet for the time being.

Mining Level 10

If you chose Geologist as a level 5 perk, then the choice will be between the level 10 perks - Gemologist and Excavator.

  • Gemologist: Makes all gems sell for 30% more
  • Excavator: Your chance to find geodes is doubled

Gemologist is the clear winner in the long run. Throw a few diamonds at a few crystallariums and you'll be a millionaire before you know it. The Excavator bonus of double the geodes is nice, but it doesn't compare to the Gemologist's profit. However, if you are trying to complete the Museum's collection, it may be useful to use the Excavator temporarily, as it will help you find the last missing minerals.

If at the fifth level you chose a Miner, then between the Blacksmith and the Prospector it is better to choose the Prospector. Coal will always be needed, so double the chance to find it is great. Selling metal ingots for more profit shouldn't be too necessary because you should be mainly using them for crafting, not selling. By the time you have a surplus of them to sell, you probably won't be short of cash.

Fishing Level 5

The Foraging skill applies to several different things, including actually mining items in the valley, as well as chopping wood. At the fifth level, you can choose between a forester and a gatherer.

Gatherer is by far the best choice, especially when paired with the right perk at level 10.

The woodsman is also not bad, but daily luck can increase the amount of wood harvested. There is no shortage of wood in Stardew Valley. However, in the early game, or any period where you're trying to build a lot of farm buildings, this can be a good choice.

However, in the long run, it is better to choose the Gatherer. In addition, the picker's feed bonus applies to these precious truffles. Travel to the Statue of Limbo and temporarily switch to the Forester to get a bunch of wood when you need it, then switch back.

Fishing Level 10

At 10th level, you will have to choose between a botanist and a ranger (if you chose a gatherer).

Choose Botanist, as he makes every item mined of the highest quality. This is an incredibly powerful skill, especially when it comes to collecting truffles. All of them will be iridium quality.

The tracker shows the location of items that can be obtained, which, of course, is great, but pales in usefulness. However, it will also point you to places to find artifacts and places to panic. If you're trying to add to a museum's collection, tracking artifacts can be helpful.

If you chose the Forester at level 5, choose the Lumberjack at level 10. This will allow all trees to be able to shed the precious hardwood we all need. Tapper makes syrups sell for more. It's not the best choice unless you're running a large maple syrup business.

Fishing Level 5

The Fishing skill tree develops in completely different directions. At level 5, you will be given the choice between Fisher and Trapper.

Fischer is absolutely the best choice here. The resources to craft crab pots aren't too hard to come by, and caught crab pots don't sell for more than regular line-caught fish - especially after the 25% increase in sales.

If you need extra crab pots, you can use all the extra money earned from the Fisherman perk to just buy pots from Willy.

Fishing Level 10

If at level 5 you choose "Fisherman", at level 10 you can choose between "Angler" and "Pirate".

At level 10, choose "Pirate" (if you chose "Fisherman"). With more treasures found, this bonus can lead you to a sweet, sweet Prismatic Shard or Dino Egg. The sale bonus from Angler is certainly nice, but to be honest, it's not that fun, and that should make a difference.

If the Stalker was chosen at level 5, choose Luremaster. This will make it so that the crab pots no longer require bait. Mariner, another option, prevents crab pots from producing junk items. Sure, it's nice not to bait drifting trees with your crab pots, but not using bait at all is much better. If you're baiting trash, what's the difference? You didn't waste the bait!

Combat Level 5

Combat is the final skill tree in Stardew. At the fifth level, you can choose a fighter or scout.

The fighter should only be selected because of the HP increase.There isn't much you can do to increase HP in Stardew, so choose this option. You will also get an attack bonus on every attack, not just rare critical hits. Maybe mathematically it does not give more damage, but it is much more stable and reliable.

Also, with the addition of the Volcano Forge in Update 1.5, you can load up your weapons with great bonuses, including critical strike bonuses and damage percentage.

Combat Level 10

After spending enough time in the Mines, Volcano, or Skull Cave, you will reach level 10 in combat and will be able to choose between Brute or Defender (if a Fighter was chosen) and Acrobat or Desperate (if Scout was chosen).

If you chose Fighter at level 5, you will choose Defender at level 10. Again, the HP increase is hard to come by, so the 25 HP bonus is great. The 15% damage increase on the Brute is nice, but the best offense is good defense (or enough stamina) after all.

For a scout, the Desperado is the best choice. Thanks to him, critical hits sometimes deal much more damage. This is much better than Acrobat, which cuts the duration of special moves in half.

Statue of Limbo

If you are not satisfied with your choice of profession, do not be afraid. The Statue of Limbo can help you change careers. All you need is a sewer key and 10,000 gold.

You can open the sewers by getting the Rusted Key. Gunther will give you this special key after you donate 60 items to the museum.

To switch professions, simply pay the Statue of Limbo and choose which skill you would like to switch professions. Then that night you will be asked to choose a profession of the 5th and 10th level again.

This can be done as many times as you like without any consequences. This is a great way to get a temporary boost in something you don't need in the long run, like switching to a forester job when you need a bunch of wood for a project.

However, it should be borne in mind that at the time of the choice you lose the profession that you are changing. This means they won't be available to you until the end of the day. Anything that is already in the shipping cart and could have received a bonus from the profession you removed will not receive it.
